QUALITY-MINDED STORE WINS WITH CONSISTENCY.(Business)

Harvey Kayne has lost track of how many times people have advised him to leave Central Avenue.

At first, he tried to explain why he has never moved Spector's men's clothing store from the faded thoroughfare in downtown Albany, but lately the 64-year-old Kayne just smiles and shrugs his shoulders.

"I know this street isn't what it once was," said Kayne, whose wife's family opened Spector's on Central Avenue 70 years ago. "But I believe that a store like this is meant to be downtown. I believe in loyalty, even to a street. It's because of loyalty that we're still around."

The premium-priced, 1940s-style haberdashery is a white elephant in the retail apparel trade.
