NSW: Rivkin undergoes further tests; hands in broker's licence
Convicted insider trader RENE RIVKIN has been ordered to undergo an independent medical
examination today.
The New South Wales Corrective Services Department says the order's been made at the
request of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
It follows a medical certificate exempting RIVKIN from periodic detention until at
least February the 13th.
The 58-year-old was sentenced in May to nine months periodic detention and fined $30,000
after a NSW Supreme Court jury found him guilty of illegally trading in Qantas shares.
He's served just one day due to ill health.
RIVKIN has also surrendered his stockbroker's licence after 33 years, citing his ongoing
health problems.
As a result, he'll no longer have to face an Australian Stock Exchange tribunal over
his conduct in the Qantas shares affair, after paying $27,500 to the ASX yesterday.
